FAQ
Yes, all YOUHA pumps are a closed-system. This means breast milk won't come in contact with the motor unit, ensuring it stays clean and hygienic.
Choosing the correct size of breast shield is essential for efficient milk expression and comfortable pumping. Using an incorrect size can reduce milk flow, lead to inadequate breast emptying, and cause discomfort or nipple trauma.
To determine the optimal breast shield size, measure your nipple size using our silicone nipple ruler. Regular measurements are important as nipple size can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's also possible for nipple sizes to differ between breasts, so choose different shield sizes if necessary.
While a 24mm breast shield is commonly used, it may not be suitable for everyone or technically work for you, but without a reference for what optimal pumping feels like, it is essential to measure your nipple size and selecting the right breast shield which can improve comfort, effective suction, make pumping more efficient and help prevent nipple damage.
Take your nipple base measurement and add 1-3mm to find your recommended YOUHA breast shield or convertor size.
When using a YOUHA breast pump, it's important to understand the different modes available. YOUHA pumps typically have 3-5 modes, but you don't need to use all of them in one session. Choose 1-2 modes per session.
Massage mode: This mode mimics a baby's initial rapid sucks, stimulating milk let-down and encouraging milk flow. It's preset for 2 minutes at the beginning of a session to initiate milk flow. You can switch to other modes when you feel ready to let-down.
Expression mode: Once milk begins to flow, switch to this mode. It has a slower, deeper sucking pattern, similar to a baby's longer, slower sucks during breastfeeding. The recommended duration is around 15-20 minutes per session for effective breast emptying.
Mixed mode: This mode combines the benefits of massage and expression modes, providing a more comfortable and effective pumping experience. In YOUHA pumps, you can add cycles of massage mode between each expression cycle. Some individuals find that using massage mode followed by expression mode is sufficient for their needs.
Personal mode and other programming modes: These modes offer different rhythmic sucking patterns to stimulate let-down reflex and initiate milk flow.
Remember, everyone's pumping experience can vary. The optimal mode and duration depend on factors like milk supply, comfort level, and individual preference. Experiment with different settings and durations to find what works best for you.
If you're finding that our breast pump doesn't have the same suction strength as your previous one, don't worry! It's completely normal to feel this way when you're first starting out with a new pump.
It takes a bit of time to get used to a new pump and discover the settings and modes that work best for you. Right now, you're still in the learning process, and that's why your old pump feels more comfortable.

If you're experiencing a lack of suction or weaker suction than before while using the same YOUHA breast pump, there are a few possible causes to consider.
1. Membrane and Valve: Over time, the membrane and valve in the breast pump can wear out and become less effective. It's important to regularly inspect these components and replace them if they're worn or damaged. This can help maintain optimal pumping performance.
2. Motor Issues: The motor of the breast pump may be experiencing problems, which can result in reduced suction strength. If you suspect an issue with the motor, you should contact us to inquire about repairs or replacements.
3. Breast Shield Size: The size of your nipples can change during the breastfeeding journey, so it's essential to measure your nipple size from time to time. Using a breast shield that fits correctly is crucial for maintaining suction strength. If your breast shield is too small or too large, it may affect the suction. Try using a correctly fitting breast shield to see if it improves the suction.
