FAQ

  • Are YOUHA pumps closed-system?
Yes, all YOUHA pumps are a closed-system. This means breast milk won't come in contact with the motor unit, ensuring it stays clean and hygienic.
  • How do I choose the correct size of breast shield?
Choosing the correct size of breast shield is essential for efficient milk expression and comfortable pumping. Using an incorrect size can reduce milk flow, lead to inadequate breast emptying, and cause discomfort or nipple trauma. To determine the optimal breast shield size, measure your nipple size using our silicone nipple ruler. Regular measurements are important as nipple size can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's also possible for nipple sizes to differ between breasts, so choose different shield sizes if necessary. While a 24mm breast shield is commonly used, it may not be suitable for everyone or technically work for you, but without a reference for what optimal pumping feels like, it is essential to measure your nipple size and selecting the right breast shield which can improve comfort, effective suction, make pumping more efficient and help prevent nipple damage. Take your nipple base measurement and add 1-3mm to find your recommended YOUHA breast shield or convertor size.
  • Which mode (s) should you use?
When using a YOUHA breast pump, it's important to understand the different modes available. YOUHA pumps typically have 3-5 modes, but you don't need to use all of them in one session. Choose 1-2 modes per session. Massage mode: This mode mimics a baby's initial rapid sucks, stimulating milk let-down and encouraging milk flow. It's preset for 2 minutes at the beginning of a session to initiate milk flow. You can switch to other modes when you feel ready to let-down. Expression mode: Once milk begins to flow, switch to this mode. It has a slower, deeper sucking pattern, similar to a baby's longer, slower sucks during breastfeeding. The recommended duration is around 15-20 minutes per session for effective breast emptying. Mixed mode: This mode combines the benefits of massage and expression modes, providing a more comfortable and effective pumping experience. In YOUHA pumps, you can add cycles of massage mode between each expression cycle. Some individuals find that using massage mode followed by expression mode is sufficient for their needs. Personal mode and other programming modes: These modes offer different rhythmic sucking patterns to stimulate let-down reflex and initiate milk flow. Remember, everyone's pumping experience can vary. The optimal mode and duration depend on factors like milk supply, comfort level, and individual preference. Experiment with different settings and durations to find what works best for you.
  • Why is the suction strength of the YOUHA pump weaker than expected?
If you're finding that our breast pump doesn't have the same suction strength as your previous one, don't worry! It's completely normal to feel this way when you're first starting out with a new pump. It takes a bit of time to get used to a new pump and discover the settings and modes that work best for you. Right now, you're still in the learning process, and that's why your old pump feels more comfortable. The good news is that the YOUHA electric breast pump is designed to provide excellent power and performance. With a little more practice and experience, you'll be able to make the most of its capabilities, just like you did with your trusty old pump. So, please don't get discouraged. Give yourself some time to adjust and experiment with different settings. Before you know it, using this new pump will feel just as natural and effective as your previous one. Keep at it, and you'll soon find your rhythm!
  • Why is there no suction or weaker suction from my YOUHA pump?
If you're experiencing a lack of suction or weaker suction than before while using the same YOUHA breast pump, there are a few possible causes to consider. 1. Membrane and Valve: Over time, the membrane and valve in the breast pump can wear out and become less effective. It's important to regularly inspect these components and replace them if they're worn or damaged. This can help maintain optimal pumping performance. 2. Motor Issues: The motor of the breast pump may be experiencing problems, which can result in reduced suction strength. If you suspect an issue with the motor, you should contact us to inquire about repairs or replacements. 3. Breast Shield Size: The size of your nipples can change during the breastfeeding journey, so it's essential to measure your nipple size from time to time. Using a breast shield that fits correctly is crucial for maintaining suction strength. If your breast shield is too small or too large, it may affect the suction. Try using a correctly fitting breast shield to see if it improves the suction. In case you've checked the above factors and are still experiencing issues with suction, it's advisable to reach out to us for further assistance.

  • Why is the suction strength of the Embody weaker than expected?
Don't worry! It's important to remember that when it comes to suction strength, bigger isn't always better. In fact, excessive suction can actually harm your breast tissue and ducts. The good news is that the suction range of Embody is designed to be safe and should provide adequate pumping power. Now, let's talk about the design of our breast pump. Traditional pumps typically use hard shields or silicone inserts on hard shields, which can make the suction feel stronger due to their rigid surface. However, our soft silicone breast shield is specifically designed with your comfort in mind. It aims to reduce any potential pain or discomfort during pumping. While it may feel less strong compared to traditional pumps, the actual suction force is similar during pumping. The difference lies in the fact that the soft breast shield lacks the rigid support, which can make it feel weaker. So, rest assured that even though it may feel different, the suction force of our breast pump is still effective and suitable for your pumping needs. The priority is your comfort and safety while maintaining a reliable pumping experience.
  • What factors should I consider when choosing a nursing bra for pumping, and how can I ensure a proper fit and maximum pumping effectiveness?
You can actually use any nursing bra that you normally wear for pumping. However, it's important to focus on achieving a proper fit and making sure the bra is adjustable, as these factors greatly contribute to successful pumping. Our maternity bra exactly perfectly fits for our wearable breast pump and express cups. When it comes to fit, it's best to avoid an overly tight bra. Instead, aim for a comfortable fit that doesn't compress your breasts. The cups should provide gentle support without any constriction, as this can hinder the pumping process. To achieve the right fit, you can utilize the back strap and bra strap extenders to customize the bra to your liking. Another tip is to raise the shoulder straps slightly upwards. This helps prevent the underside breast tissue from being restricted, which can make pumping more challenging. By keeping the straps elevated, you can counteract the downward pull that occurs as the milk bottles gradually fill during pumping. This becomes particularly important as the milk volume increases. Remember, the key is to prioritize your comfort and ensure that the bra supports your pumping needs effectively. So find a nursing bra that fits well, provides adequate support, and allows for adjustments as needed. Happy pumping!
